Our Legacy of Dedication & Service
Serving Youth and Adults
The TLOD Story
Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. (TLOD) was founded on September 8, 1964, in Texas as a nonprofit educational and humanitarian organization. Eight visionary women came together with a shared commitment to service, leadership, and community impact.
The organization’s beginning was inspired by Major Ozell M. Dean, who represented Mrs. Willie Lee Glass at a luncheon hosted by First Lady Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson. Motivated by that experience, Major Dean joined with Mrs. Glass, Mrs. Franchell Boswell, and other distinguished women to create an organization focused on addressing the needs of youth and strengthening communities.
TLOD held its first meeting on June 4, 1964, at Texas College. Its original mission was to unite the talents and skills of women in service to youth facing moral and social challenges during the 1960s.
Over time, TLOD expanded its work to include youth development, the status of women, senior citizens, community beautification, and community partnerships. Through programs such as Top Teens of America and partnerships with organizations including NCNW, NAACP, UNCF, and March of Dimes, TLOD continues to make a meaningful impact.
Today, TLOD is a respected service organization with thousands of members across the nation, supporting more than 4,000 Top Teens and countless communities.
Through every program, project, and partnership, TLOD remains committed to its mission of “Serving Youth and Adults.”
